"When you inhale, you are taking the strength from God.
When you exhale, it represents the service you are giving to the world."

 Moea Yoga

moea - a sesotho word for spirit/breath/air

In Sesotho, the word "moea" is often used when describing the spirit or soul. It also happens to be the same word used to describe wind, breath or air. This relationship in the meaning is found throughout humankind.
For example, the English word spirit comes from the Latin "spiritus", meaning "breath", but also "soul, courage and vigour".

In yoga the aim is to bring harmony between the body, mind and spirit. The relationship between breath and life has been identified and expressed in numerous ways. This is captured by Sri T. Krishnamacharya, often referred to as the father of modern yoga, when he says "Inhale, and God approaches you. Hold the inhalation, and God remains with you. Exhale, and you approach God. Hold the exhalation, and surrender to God".

Moea Yoga is based on the teachings of BKS Iyengar. In the Iyengar system there is a focus on alignment, sequencing and the length of time the pose is held. Amongst the numerous benefits are:
  • a healthy mind and body.
  • enhanced vitality, energy and endurance.
  • increased flexibility, tone of muscles and regulated body weight.
  • massaged organs and detoxification of the body.
  • stress management.

"Yoga is for everyone. You need not be an expert or at the peak of physical fitness to practise the asanas." BKS Iyengar
